The sticky paintings,
primed surfaces coated in Stickum Special and then placed
in the landscape to map nature and its movement, came
about as the fifth and final result of four previous
series of landscape and sound based two-dimensional paintings
that investigate the Vermont landscape. Forty 8
x 6” sticky paintings were made at the Vermont
Studio Center in Johnson, VT in the summer of 2000. An
additional forty 8 x 6” paintings were made in
Baltimore, Maryland in the fall of 2000. Subsequently,
a series of 6 x 6’ and 6 x 8’, thirteen total,
using house paint and Stickum Special, were created on
the Goucher College campus, as part of an 18-month collaboration
which culminated with an exhibition in the Rosenberg
Gallery at Goucher College, Perpendicular Dialogues.
